Every workplace evolves. If you train for today, what about tomorrow?
Each trainee already has differences in the environment within which they work, and those evolve.
And of course, the trainee evolves, forgetting some things and learning other things.
The ‘point of work’ where the trainee and their working environment come together is a shifting target.
How can you put in place mechanisms of support that will keep up with that evolutionary journey of the workplace?
It is often not just a straightforward case of trainees applying what they’ve learnt, assuming you have done what you need to do for learning transfer; there are also situations that occur when what they have learnt does not quite fit because the environment has changed, or something has broken and so the standardised response will not work.
What support do you need to provide to your trainees after they leave the classroom?
Make a list of the different scenarios related to your course content where the trainee stops and asks, “Help, I am stuck. What do I do now?”
For each of those scenarios, how can you provide support that can be quickly and easily accessed by the trainee to get them unstuck?
Then what do you need to do to make them aware of that support and keen to use it when they need it?
