L&D is all about change – isn’t it?

Try this thought on for size…

Your people don’t resist change in their role and the organisation, they resist the journey.

If this is true, and we in Learning & Development want them to change, we must focus on the journey.

  1. Reduce the barriers that obstruct their journey
  2. Help them see their self-interest in the journey, and the destination
  3. Help them see that the journey is possible for someone like them
  4. Provide a plan for their journey
  5. Provide support and guidance so they can follow the plan
  6. Make their journey socially acceptable, and even better, desirable.

If their desire for the destination is sufficient to overcome the remaining barriers, they will get there.
