What if your doctor said “I will heal you”?
I would be a little skeptical. Healing is something we do internally for ourselves. No one else can do it for us.
What if they said, “I will help you heal”.
That I could believe, and I would welcome the help. They would do things to assist my healing process and help me optimise my circumstances and environment for healing.
Learning is also something we can only do for ourselves, and people can help us learn by optimising our circumstances and environment for learning.
We often think of learning as something we in L&D ‘do to’ people. We call it training. Or we call it ‘delivering learning’, which is as bad as saying “I will learn you”.
What would happen if we started thinking of learning as something people can only do for themselves, and we are there to help them do it?
A doctor can do a myriad of things to help someone heal.
What can you do to help someone learn?
